Charlie and I learned to paddle board this past summer. It was one of the many highlights of this past summer. Paddling around the lake with Charlie perched at the front of the board was a perfect way to spend a summer afternoon.

It was during our second or third time on a paddle board, as we were heading to shore, when Charlie said:

“It’s hard to do new things because new things are scary. Like paddle boarding. I was so nervous the first time we went out. But it’s like you only have two choices: Try the new thing or just be scared. So then the choice is easy because who wants to spend their whole life being scared? That’s boring.”

I repeated those words in my mind, over and over again, until we reached shore and I could record them using my phone.

They’re pretty perfect.
