Marjorie Taylor Greene’s lunacy is nothing new

Yes, it’s true. Marjorie Taylor’s Green’s belief system is pure lunacy.

Among her many tings she has claimed:

  • Greene has expressed belief in the existence of “Frazzledrip,” a fictitious video that conspiracy theorists claim shows Hillary Clinton and aide Huma Abedin sexually assault a child before slicing off her face and wearing it as a mask.
  • Greene has called the Sandy Hook school shooting, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, and the 9/11 terrorist attacks false flag operations conducted by elements of the United States government.
  • Greene has argued that Jewish space lasers caused the deadly Camp Fire in California in the fall of 2018.
  • Prior to the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Greene suggested that a recent public appearance of the Supreme Court Justice was actually a body double.
  • Greene has expressed support for the executions of President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

There’s more. But the highlights are astounding.

Equally astounding, Republicans in Congress refuse to do anything about her. They have not stripped Greene of her committee assignments and, in many cases, have avoided criticizing her at all.

When asked what he thought of Greene’s beliefs, newly minted Senator and village idiot  Tommy Tuberville said:

“I haven’t looked at what all she’s done. I’d have to hold back a statement on that…I’ve been traveling. This weather’s been a little rough. Didn’t look at any news or whatever.”

The weather. Tuberville can’t read the news because of the weather.

He still has not issued a statement regarding Greene.

All of this sounds insane to anyone who is not insane, but let us not forget that during his Presidency, Trump expressed beliefs that are nearly as crazy as those of Greene:

  • Trump claimed that windmills cause cancer.
  • Trump suggested that ingesting bleach and shining UV light into bodies are possible cures for COVID-19, which required the CDC, state poison control centers, and others to issue statements warning Americans not to drink bleach.
  • Other than golf, Trump considers exercise misguided, arguing that a person, like a battery, is born with a finite amount of energy that should not be needlessly wasted.
  • Trump suggested that exploding a nuclear warhead in the center of a hurricane might dissipate the storm.

Like Greene, there’s more. But the highlights are astounding.

Please don’t be tricked into thinking that Marjorie Taylor’s Green’s support of conspiracy theories is not something new for the Republican party.

It’s not a bug. It’s a feature.

The former (and possibly still current) leader of the Republican party believes in things that can only be describe as lunacy, but those bizarre beliefs were papered over. Tossed aside. Laughed off as meaningless. Ignored by people in the Republican party who elected Trump to the highest office in the land.

Greene is a nutcase. No doubt. But she is simply playing “Follow the leader.”
