I wish I knew who created this graphic so I could give them the credit they deserve.
It’s excellent.
Also very much needed.
Another 136,325 Covid-19 cases and 1,420 virus-related deaths were reported in the United States on Tuesday, according to Johns Hopkins University. Also, the number of people with Covid-19 at US hospitals for the first time topped 60,000.
That marked a new single-day record for the number of new cases identified in the US and the eighth day in a row that more than 100,000 people were diagnosed with the novel coronavirus.
The United States has set new infection records in seven of the last nine days.
Texas has become the first state in the United States to record 1 million coronavirus cases, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. If Texas, which has a population of about 29 million people, were its own country, it would now be ranked 10th in terms of total identified cases of Covid-19.
Yesterday, the CDC offered new guidance, stating that wearing a mask can help protect you – not just those around you – from coronavirus transmission. The new guidance cites a number of studies showing that masks reduce the risk of transmitting or catching the virus by more than 70% in various instances.
This is good news for the selfish, self-centered idiot who cares nothing for the people around you:
Wearing a mask can save your own life.
Thankfully, I live in Connecticut. I can’t remember the last time I was in a public space and saw someone not wearing a mask. This doesn’t mean that we are free from COVID-19, of course. Infection rates in our state are rising, as the doctors and scientists warned it would in the fall and winter months.
This makes the exercising of responsible behavior even more important than ever.
Instead, I’ve watched people begin to let their guards down over the past few weeks, which makes no sense.
Let’s be clear:
The rate of infection, the number of infections, the number of hospitalizations, and the number of deaths are all at an all-time high. This virus is spreading faster and killing more people than it did in the spring, when so many of us were so afraid.
The pandemic is worse now than ever before.
Now is the time to be more vigilant than ever before. Though we are on the cusp of a potentially game-changing vaccine, tens of thousands of Americans are going to die before it ever reaches the market.
Many more if we don’t take the steps necessary to protect ourselves and others.
Be safe, people. Now is not the time to let down your guard.
