Same great ice cream! Brand new song!
Did you hear? The Good Humor truck has a brand new jingle!
This is great news for so many reasons:
- The original Good Humor jingle, “Turkey in the Straw,” was popularized in minstrel shows, and it was often paired with hateful, racist lyrics, so replacing it was overdue.
- The new jingle is wonderful.
- The new jingle was composed by legendary rapper, music producer and founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan, RZA, who seems genuinely excited about the opportunity to do this.
- Good Humor has made the new jingle free to all ice cream vendors in perpetuity, and the song will be added to all future music boxes free of charge.
- This new jingle is certain to annoy the same kinds of people who defend Confederate monuments, the Confederate flag, and military bases named after traitorous, scumbag losers who attempted to destroy our country by ripping it apart in the name of slavery. That’s pretty wonderful, too.
