The word “nice” used to mean “a stupid or foolish person.”
For the record, it still means “a stupid or foolish person” much of the time.
Question: “What do you think of Jane’s husband?”
Answer: “He’s such a nice guy.”
Translation: “He’s boring and maybe a little stupid, but he doesn’t hurt small animals and is easily bullied into favors.”
If “nice” is the eighth or ninth word used to describe you… okay. Maybe.
But if “nice” is one of the first words someone uses to describe you?
Forget it.
You’re probably a stupid or foolish person.
