I was attempting to renew my vehicle registration online, but I eventually landed on a screen that said that renewal online was not possible. Then it offered me an opportunity to email the Department of Motor Vehicles for more information.
I did.
Three days later, I received an email informing me that my vehicle required an updated emissions test in order to renew online.
The email concluded with this sentence.
Please note: This conversation chain has been terminated, and this communication thread has been closed.
I love this sentence. I immediately copied it for future use.
I’ll be using it in online communication whenever I want to stop exchanging emails with someone, but I would love to use this sentence in real life sometime.
Can you imagine?
Someone in the world is annoying you with their boring, inane, bureaucratic, political, or pedantic conversation, so you simply jump in and say:
Please note: This conversation chain has been terminated, and this communication thread has been closed.
Then you walk. Turn your back and take a hike.
I hope I have the chance to do this someday.
The Department of Motor Vehicles often gets a bad rap, but in this case, I couldn’t be more impressed. Their direct and specific communication skills are superb.
Also, one day after completing my emissions test, I was able to renew my registration online.
The system works.
