A reader sent this to me today.
It’s a photograph of the epilogue of Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend, which has created quite a stir among many readers.
I love it.
When I finished the book, it had no epilogue. I went to bed thinking that my story was finished, but when I awoke the next morning, these nine sentences were in my mind, almost exactly as they appear on the page today.
It wasn’t how I wanted the book to end, but I think it’s how it was supposed to end, so I wrote these nine sentences before sending the manuscript to my agent.
It’s odd how books sometimes decide things for themselves, even when the author thinks otherwise.
