What color is your house?

This is a fascinating and slightly addictive game that seems simple but is surprisingly challenging:

Look at a color for a short time, then match that color.

It’s much harder than you think, and it was designed by researchers who wanted to assess human ability to remember colors.

It’s not as good as you might think.

Case in point:

Elysha and I had been living in our home for more than a decade when one day, on the way home from New York, we started talking about the color of houses, and I mentioned that we live in a yellow house.

“We do not,” Elysha said. Our house is light brown,” she said. “Nothing like yellow at all.”

“Our house is yellow like the sun,” I said.

I knew it, too. I was absolutely certain.

When we turned onto our street, I saw my house, and it wasn’t anything close to yellow.

I attributed this to my poor visual memory, but according to this game and the researchers’ findings, humans don’t remember color nearly as well as they think they do.

See, honey?

It wasn’t me. It was my foolish, limited humanity.
