As I ride through the streets of my town on my bike, looking for new streets and trails to explore, I’ve noticed lots of interesting things. Many of them existed long before the pandemic but simply went unnoticed by me until now, but others have appeared as a result of the coronavirus.
One of them has been these stickers, placed beneath the walk buttons on poles throughout town. Sometimes miles and miles apart from each other.
Somewhere in the world – probably in my town – a political activist took to the streets and planted his or her message in a clever location for all to see.
Admittedly, it probably didn’t take a lot of time, and it cost almost nothing in terms of resources, but I can’t help but admire this person and their actions. In a time when so many of us are focused on remaining healthy and safe and financially stable, this person took to the streets to make a public, political declaration in support of their fellow Americans.
The fact that I support this particular political message helps.
Had these signs supported the right to own assault weapons or the dismantling of Obamacare and the social safety net or the use of household cleansers and UV light to battle COVID-19, I might be decidedly less impressed with the person and their message.
But I’d still find the gumption required to take a political stand – as misguided, unethical, and dangerous as it might be – impressive.
