I was reading aloud to my students when we came upon the word “comeuppance.”
“Who knows what comeuppance means?” I asked.
There was silence for a few moments, and then one student said, “Is it the way magicians pull up their pants?”
It took me a second to figure out what she meant.
Then I knew:
Comeuppance
Come up, pants.
Kids are the best.
