Ice cream queen

In the midst of a pandemic, when vacations are cancelled, choices are limited, and traditions are suspended, we must do anything we can to bring joy and spark into the lives of our children.

On Saturday, Elysha managed to accomplish this monumental task by somehow arranging for the ice cream truck to visit our neighborhood and park in our driveway.

An ice cream truck!

And yes, I know… as one of my friends pointed out, the end result was simply an ice cream treat, readily available in any grocery or convenience store or vending machine.

But that friend is a soulless monster who has forgotten the childhood joy of an ice cream truck winding its way through the neighborhood, filled with palpable, irresistible beauty.

And when one parks in your own driveway, a simple ice cream treat becomes a memory that my children will like have for their lifetimes.

I was teaching tow dozen storytellers around the world via Zoom as the truck arrived, so I’m not sure how she made all of this happen, but I stopped teaching and ran outside to enjoy the moment, too.

It’s a memory that I will have for my lifetime as well.

Well played, Elysha Dicks.
