Duolingo’s excellent exercise

Duolingo served me this exercise yesterday:

“Julia and Marie are married.”

I loved it. I also got it correct.

I loved the idea of bigots opposed to same-sex marriage throwing their little temper tantrum about being forced to translate a sentence about two women being married.

It’s so stupid that they think this way, of course, but then again, they’re bigots. They’re supposed to be stupid. That’s what bigotry is all about.

I find the religiously motivated bigots the dumbest of all:

Do Christians honestly believe that if Jesus — the one portrayed in the Gospels — returned to Earth, he would have any opposition to two men or two women in a loving relationship?

If so, they haven’t read the Gospels.

More likely, they are just stupid bigots shielding their bigotry with some ancient, Old Testament edict and proclaiming it the will of God instead of the little, bigoted rage monster living inside of them.

Happily, same sex marriage has become so ubiquitous and accepted by the majority of Americans that Duolingo is referencing it in its exercises.

We still have a long way to go, but progress is a beautiful thing.
