Bigot begone

The Chicago Bulls waived guard Jaden Ivey this week for conduct detrimental to the team hours after he posted a lengthy rant on social media that included anti-gay sentiments.

Ivey criticized the NBA for promoting Pride Month, calling it a celebration of “unrighteousness.”

He wrote:

“The world proclaims LGBTQ, right? They proclaim Pride Month, and the NBA does too. They show it to the world. They say, ‘Come join us for Pride Month to celebrate unrighteousness.’ They proclaim it on the billboards. They proclaim it on the streets. Unrighteousness.”

Less than 24 hours later, Ivey was released, effectively firing him from his position with the Chicago Bulls.

Good for the Bulls, though had the player been Josh Giddey or Matas Buzelism, the team would’ve likely reacted differently.

Maybe a fine or a suspension, but likely not a release of one of their best players.

Still, good for the Bulls. Ivey was a young player, a high draft pick, and still had potential, so waiving him wasn’t without cost.

Charlie and I attended the Celtics game on Friday night, which was the team’s “Celebration of Pride Month”  game.

Ivey would’ve loved it. Rainbow flags. Celebration of the LGBTQ community. Lots of gay people.

The part that makes absolutely no sense to me is how Ivey — who uses religion to defend his bigotry — plays basketball on Sundays, which the Bible clearly states is a sin (more than 15 times across the Old and New Testament, including in the Ten Commandments) and is punishable by death, but instead fixates on the Bible’s prescribed bigotry toward members of the LGBTQ community.

Dozens of Biblical laws, like death to adulterers and disobedient children, no mixing of fabrics, no interest on loans, all debts forgiven after seven years, no cutting or shaving of the beard and so many more are utterly ignored by people like Ivey, but when it comes to what people do with their sex organs, Jaden Ivey and his ilk are obsessed.

The Bible could not be clearer about not allowing any work on the Sabbath. It’s more clear about this, and stated more frequently, than any admonition against homosexuality, and Jesus Christ never directly addresses homosexuality in the Gospels.

In fact, there are 6-7 references to same sex behavior in the Bible (depending on what version of the Bible you are reading)

By comparison, there are more than 75 references to keeping the Sabbath holy, including multiple references about killing those who don’t.

Yet when the pee-pee and the vajayjay are involved, these religious perverts are all in on dictating what part goes where and are perfectly happy to work, shop, and attend NBA games on Sundays.

It’s so strange, creepy, and nonsensical.

So good for the Chicago Bulls on firing an ignorant bigot from their team.

And now that Ivey doesn’t have a job, perhaps he can stop working on Sundays, too.
