What motivates me?

  1. Spite
  2. A desire to impress my wife (and before that, the desire to impress girls)
  3. The fear of poverty
  4. The need to create something that will last beyond my lifetime
  5. The personal satisfaction that comes with success

But mostly it’s spite and the desire to impress my wife.

Spite? Really? You haven’t outgrown that?

    • matthew says:

Outgrown it? I’ve embraced it. And I was surprised to find that many people who responded to this post also listed spite as a motivator.

I may have not been fully awake and too blunt when I wrote that. What do mean you mean by spite and how do you use it as a motivator?

    • matthew says:

A friend tells me that no one can write a decent novel before the age of 40. I do so. Partially out of the spite that fuels me.

Despicable cowards attempt to ruin my career (long story). I forge ahead, realizing more and more success, while taking great pleasure in proving them wrong and knowing that my success annoys the hell out of them.

      Spite.
